10 Facts You Never Knew About Rag’n'Bone Man

Rag'n'Bone Man is the man of the moment and we're so excited that he's heading to Cornish shores this summer for what is set to be a legendary Boardmasters main stage performance! Read on for 10 facts about the man behind the voice...

► His real name is...

... Rory Charles Graham.

► He's a multiple BRIT award winner

The singer-songwriter won Best Single for 'Human' at the 2018 BRITs and was named the winner of the Critics' Choice and British Breakthrough Act at 2017 BRIT Awards. "The accolades are great, but you’ve just got to take each day as it comes. Don’t believe your own hype!”

► 'Skin' was inspired by a Game Of Thrones plotline

"I'd been watching Game Of Thrones where Jon Snow and the wildling girl [Ygritte]; they’re obviously in love but they can’t be together because they’re from different worlds. It’s a very sad, solemn scene, but I came back in and I’d written down: ‘When the walls came down/ When I heard that sound/ I’d still be thinking about you.’ It just meant that whatever happened you’d still have that person in your mind. And that was kind of inspired by that episode.”

► His debut album sold more than Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith

'Human' sold 117,000 copies in it's first week, becoming the fastest-selling male debut album of the decade. A bigger opening week than Ed Sheeran's debut album in 2011 or Sam Smith's in 2014!

► He Used To Be A Full Time Carer

...looking after people with Asperger syndrome and Down's syndrome. "It was mentally draining, but most of the time it was pretty fun, to be honest. I looked after a brother and sister who both had Down's syndrome, and we used to drive around in the car, stick on Disney songs and sing along. That was my life for about four years."

► The name Rag'n'Bone Man came from a famous sitcom

Rags' nickname is a nod to Steptoe and Son after watching repeats of the show as a teen. He came up with his early name of Rag 'N' Bonez when he MC'd with a drum and bass crew, reckoning it sounded like the name of a classic blues singer.

► He's mates with George Ezra

Rory appeared as a special guest on George's recent podcast and formed a beautiful friendship (listen in HERE) They're both playing Boardmasters on Sunday 12th August... will they team up once again? We can only wish!

► Track 'Human' Was Inspired By Not Knowing The Answer

A friend asked me a question I didn't really feel qualified to answer, and I was like, "Why are you asking me?" That's what prompted the line, "I'm no prophet or messiah". Like, go and ask someone else. I don't have the answers for you! It's funny, because I spoke to other people and they think it's about humanity. Maybe it is… but that's what's good about music - people can interpret the song for themselves."

► He Spent His Early Years Making Hip Hop

"I think I was good - but I always had the feeling everyone was better than me, you know? When I started singing, I left it behind."

► Elton John Thinks He's Awesome

Rag’n’Bone Man recently revealed his shock at receiving a phonecall from Elton John, who told him - “I f**king love you, I think you’re brilliant”.
