Get to know Your Sunday Headliners: Foals!

Storming into our lives in 2007 with ‘Hummer’, Foals have risen through the ranks over the past 12 years to indie rock stardom. Having recently released new single ‘Exits’ and with a new two-part album on the way in 2019, Foals are back with a bang and ready to storm the Main Stage at Boardmasters 2019! But how well do you really know this Oxford five-piece? We’ve put together a list of facts that you might not know about our Sunday night headliners…

Frontman Yannis Philippakis dropped out of his English Literature degree at Oxford University for the band (in fact, guitarist Jimmy Smith was the only band member to finish his degree!)

Foals have been nominated twice for a Mercury Prize award!

Known for his energetic performances, Yannis once broke a toe from kicking a speaker on stage. Ouch!

Yannis and bandmate Jack Bevan have been playing together since they were 15.

Having been described as everything from indie rock to punk, to techno, the band’s music can’t be classified. They even performed at Metallica’s Orion Music + More festival!

Yannis has got the moves - he even used to attend a contemporary dance class!

The band have said that they're inspired by the sound of bees! You can even hear bees buzzing on tracks ‘Prelude,’ ‘Milk and Black Spiders’ and ‘Moon.’
