LONDON’S KINGS OF SURF-NOIR - A phrase coined by the music press in the early days, it perfectly encapsulates the band's unique approach to guitar-led instrumental music.
Two duelling guitars, bass and drums: the set up is simple and classic. And while relocating contemporary songs to the timeless era of Twang conjures a retro vibe (think Dick Dale, Duane Eddy, Ventures or Shadows), the Bikini Beach Band's choice of material and sheer musical audacity and wit elevates this deceptively simple formula into something fresh, exciting, and above all, entertaining. Who else could mash Radiohead's Creep up with Richie Valens' La Bamba, call it La Creepa, and make it both danceable and funny. On-stage, the boys themselves remain silent and resolutely deadpan at all times – much to everyone's delight.
